Every country would prefer to have good quality products in every single store. For this to happen the relevant authorities have to take some steps to ensure that the required quality standards are set and adhered to. This is the case in Russia and the CU (Customs Union). There are specific Russian certification standards that have been put in place and every manufacturer that would like to get their products into this territory has to meet all the stipulated standards.

The CU is a combination of a number of countries, namely Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, and they formed a union that would make it easier to import and export products within these three countries. This had the effect of increased volumes of good quality products moving faster across borders and this in turn improved the economic and even political ties among these states.

Getting certificates for customs

The process of acquiring certification is very detailed so that standards are maintained. A number of documents will have to be handed in for scrutiny. The documents for export to Russia include a form that requires details about the manufacturing company, the product details and what it will be used for. Any safety certificates as well as registration documents from their country of origin should also be submitted. These forms are thoroughly scrutinized and if everything seems to be in order, samples of the products are taken for testing so as to ascertain their contents.

The tests are done in a specified accredited lab but the manufacturer can request another lab provided it is authorized. They can also be done at the manufacturing plant itself. The results of these tests will determine whether the product gets certified or not.

Foreign companies must look for a representative in Russia because only Russian nationals can apply for certification. This Russian citizen will undertake these processes on behalf of the company so as to ensure that the certification is obtained. Once the process is complete and the results are positive the products will receive certification. It goes without saying that this certification is what will allow the products through customs and across the borders and into all the other countries within the Customs Union.

Different certificates for customs

There are various types of certification systems and standards that are used in this territory for different products. They include voluntary certification, certificate of origin, certificate of conformity with technical regulations, declaration of conformity with the technical regulations of the Customs Union, fire safety certificate, declaration of fire safety and GOST R certification.

All these are viewed as certificates for customs since they are required before any product is allowed to move freely within the Customs Union.

Not all products are subject to mandatory certification. It is however advisable that a manufacturer takes on voluntary certification just to ensure that your clients will trust your products. It will also get the authorities off your back since you will already have proved the quality of your products. It will definitely set you apart from the other players in that industry.

All the different certification schemes have been placed so as to ensure that products are of high quality, will not harm the environment, property and will definitely not cause any harm to human health. The fire safety certificate has to be obtained first before you receive a conformity certificate or declaration. The details may seem complicated but an expert in the field would be able to properly guide and advise you about the process.
